Two Hundred Fifty-Nine

That’s how many days are left in the year 2014.  We’ve gone through 106 so far, which is a whole lot, but it isn’t the whole lot.  It isn’t even one-third of the year!

Why this sudden obsession with the days?  I’m so glad that you asked!

In my continuing capacity as your Official Blog For Mental Health conduit and project coordinator, I seem to be getting a lot of questions, comments, and concerns, and most all of them having the same basic theme:

Am I too late to participate in Blog For Mental Health 2014?  What’s the deadline for submitting posts?

(If you’ve already pledged or aren’t so interested in BFMH, please do keep reading just the same.  I need your help, all of you wonderful Canvas readers, and more details will be forthcoming momentarily.)

Gathering up the ocean in my arms

When Ruby asked me if I’d like to contribute to Canvas I was excited. As in really excited. As in ‘I’m a bit bouncy and excited’ excited. I bounced around for a bit, being all excited and then it started to dawn on me that if I wanted to write something for Canvas I’d actually have to sit down and write something. If I’m honest I sat down to try and write something quite a few times. I’ve always been a perfectionist. And I’ve always been struck by the irony that when you’re a perfectionist there is no such thing as perfection.

So, with all the posts I’ve done about the WEGO Awards lately (ceremony tomorrow, dum de da!), I feel like I’ve slacked just a little with some other awards that are much more important to me and to everyone at Canvas, honestly.

March 28th, that is!  That’s the big day, the day of the 2012 WEGO Health Activist Awards Ceremony, a virtual event that is taking place on facebook to announce the winners of the 2012 WEGO Health Activist Awards.  In case you missed it, Canvas is a finalist in the category of Best Ensemble Cast, and we’re all so excited!  WEGO Health released a schedule of events just a few days ago:

Awards Show Jitters

A post about awards?  Well, we’ve done these posts before, so why should I have jitters?

These awards are something quite different from the lovely honors given to us by our fellow bloggers in the past.  These are actually nominations for the 2012 WEGO Health Activist Awards.  After being nominated, we have to go through the semifinals and finals before a winner is chosen.  If we make it to those rounds, that is.

October 2012: Mental Health Care Around The World

This month’s Let’s Talk About topic was chosen by DeeDee.  She thought that since we have authors and readers from so many different countries, discussing both the way health care is structured and the way this affects the care available to consumers would be valuable.  And as it happens, she’s psychic!  DeeDee brought this up many months ago, and recently some of our own authors, as well as others not directly involved with Canvas, have had reason to mention it in their personal blogs.

I live in the United States, and I have had some fairly unique experiences with mental (and general) health care.

The Story Of DeeDee And Ruby

Last October, I had the honor and joy of meeting my amazing Canvas co-founder, Lulu, live and in person.  Well at the beginning of this month, the lovely Canvas author DeeDee Chickadee alighted into my geographical area, and we got to spend a very wonderful day together.  Click the links to read all about the blue tongues, the flaming cheese, me on a rock climbing wall in four-inch heels, and the friendship between us.
