Ruby Buys A Vowel

RubyLadies and gentleman, boys and girls, loves of my heart. . .

Last week I was going through my old Canvas posts, looking for one in particular that I needed to give me a frame of for reference on something.  And I found the particular post, and I said to myself, ‘Damn, I wrote some pretty good stuff here.’  I did, too, and I am not the only one, not even close.

Then all at once, as I was doing something completely non-Canvas related, and thinking thoughts having nothing whatsoever to do with mental health or blogging (I was watching an old movie, okay?), it occurred to me that there are all of these great pieces in our archives, published before we had much of a reader base.  And let’s be honest, you aren’t really going to wade through two years of this stuff on your own.  It’s okay, I get it.

Now Canvas is not a place for reblogs, though a few exceptions have been made.  My initial thought was just to share these old posts through facebook and Twitter.  But what about all of you who have no facebook account, who aren’t on the Twitter stream?

So, starting this week, I think it’s time for me to reblog some Canvas posts to Canvas.  Like I said, there’s a lot of stuff by all of our authors I really think is worth reading.

Don’t worry, the main focus will still be on new pieces our authors are working on now.  This will just be something to hopefully pique your interests in the meantime.  And please do comment!  I can’t vouch for every piece, as some of our “retirees” (I haven’t thought up a better word) aren’t even on WordPress any more.  But I’ve vouchsafed at least one is willing to come back and discuss, and I’m even going to stick my own toes a little further in the water, let’s say even my whole foot, and try to keep current on any comments you leave for me — including on this post.

Love and Kisses,
Ruby

  1. That’s a great idea! There are some great posts on here that are being missed. I know I have a bunch on my own blog that have never been seen. So glad to see you!

    • I feel the same about my blog, but for me, something about it being you guys as well, instead of myself alone, all I could think about is how incredibly big our reader base has gotten, and that damnit! this stuff should be shared!

And thank you, sweet Alice. Like I said, I’m sticking my feet in. 😉

    • Janet, thank you, as always! Your continual kindness and support mean so much to me. I have to admit, I hesitated before I hit “Reblog” on the first post, it’s so incredibly different from what I have come to write. But I realized that seeing how all of us have changed and grown in even just two years is something valuable in and of itself. 🙂

  2. Bring it, Ruby. You’ve piqued my interest. 🙂

I’ve also thought about all my great stuff from before I realized wordpress was another social media platform – from when I thought readers magically appeared with no effort on my part. I apparently wasn’t the brightest bulb on the tree then, but I could write a blog post.

    • Sid, I think a lot of us didn’t realize the protocol for engaging readers for a while after we got started. It’s kind of like parenting, and Canvas being a “second child”, you’ve learned a little on the first. 😉

But still, even with two of us launching and promoting it, it didn’t get much visibility right off the bat. Mental health blogging, just blogging in general has really exploded lately. I sit and do nothing with I Was Just Thinking. . . and I’m still gaining multiple readers by the day. Say what?

In any case, like I said to Alice above, since it’s a whole wonderful group of authors and not just me, I’m motivated to say, “Hey, world, look at the wonderful things you missed!”

    • Thank you Ms. Mermaids & Puffins! I won’t claim it’s all genius, but there really is some good stuff I hope readers like you enjoy!

    • Dani, there is! My first reblog is just because I’m doing things chronologically, but even though it isn’t really the way I write anymore, it’s still important, and there’s much, much more to come! 🙂
