Ladies and gentlemen, there is a Blogroll Contest going on over at A Clown On Fire. Why am I mentioning it? Because I have just put in a bid for Canvas to be a part of the blogroll, and you can help make that happen.
The results are dependent, you see, on reader comments, most specifically, writing “Like” under the comment I made. You’ll find it because a) It’s probably one of the longest; and b) A thumbnail sized version of this is beside it:

And boy do we need help, because I can’t be witty, fun, or anything but passionate and heartfelt when putting out a plea for people and a project I love so much. I totally agree with you. I have been checking out a few of le Clowns favorites now and have enjoyed a little chat with him at “my house”. I haven’t done much else this morning (isn’t that terrible). The image is a painting by Frank Cadogen Cowper, called La Belle Dame Sans Merci, based on a poem by John Keats of the same name.
Awesome, I once wrote a post about that, including a painting, but I don’t think it was this one. Still I love the painting, and I like the fact that you use it as a Gravatar. It’s a good sign. I’ll return! 😉
There are a ton of paintings based off of the poem. It was the in thing for some time. I’m going to have to go fishing for the post on your blog!

I know from your blog that you are Belgian, but as a slightly-less-ignorant-than-average American (or perhaps just one who is acutely aware of her own limitations of knowledge about other countries), I was wondering if you knew the song from which the name is taken?
Which name do you mean? I guess Ruby, bit I’ve got no clue at all for the song. Unless it’s Ruby from the Kaiser Chiefs but that doesn’t seem logical…

LOL, I have to tell you right now that pretty much any music I link to will have the “charming” screams. I really don’t like watching videos, but live performances (such as they were) I enjoy. With me a song is just such an intimate experience, I prefer not to have someone else’s concepts in my head while I listen.
Good or bad, the song and I kind of found each other, as songs and I tend to do. But I’m at a place where I look at it as good. Most days.

I agree. But sometimes, I need other interpretations to finally understand the song a bit. Still, I don’t watch music videos, I just do other stuff while hearing music. It’s moslty back ground music for me, no matter how much I love the song.
My father is a musician, so I grew up with a bit of a different take on music than most people do. Although I do love it both for background and for just listening.
For me, though, there was an unpleasant incident with electroconvulsive therapy a couple of years ago – actually 16 incidents. But my brain was “rewired” in some unfortunate ways, one of them being that I have a great difficulty concentrating on tasks like writing if there is music on, which is quite different than how I used to be. But I have learned how to enjoy both things separately now.
My father always listens to classical music, and he plays oboe, so I’ve always kind of liked classical music as well, and he does his best to give us a better view on certain pieces and stuff… So I think I understand you more or less.
Awww, that’s not good :(. Glad you can deal with it though, but still, that is really unpleasant.
Whereas my father plays electric bass and electric and acoustic guitar, so the music I was brought up on was different, but I think you’re right that the principle kind of holds true for both of us.
As for the ECT and associated stuff, yeah, I’m not going to deny that it sucks and I wish it could be undone. But it can’t, so I kind of just have to go with “It is what it is” and move on. Plus, I was able to overcome so much of it and rewire my brain myself to offset it. So it didn’t take me down in the long term. 🙂
